MEET KAT LEBRASSE

People share special stories with us when customizing their own Duo Rings so we thought it would be interesting to share with you some of the inspirational stories from the unique personalities we meet. We invite you to get to know some of the amazing ladies we know and get to interview. Let’s celebrate each other’s beautiful stories…

Based in Dubai, Kat Lebrasse is a digital influencer, born and raised in Melbourne and is of Mauritian descent. Get to know her story below.

What has your experience been, what did you study and how did you get into blogging?

I studied Bachelor of Applied Science, and majored in Tourism and Management, but never really felt like that industry was for me. Throughout university, I worked part-time for an Australian fashion designer named Alannah Hill and it was the only place I felt completely myself and utterly comfortable, so I knew that at some stage in life, I would turn to fashion. The only problem was, I still had a burning desire to travel and see as much of the world as possible as well. Typical first world problems! So I hopped on a plane, flew to Dubai and joined Emirates Airline as a flight attendant. Years passed, I continued flying, dabbled in PR through Emirates sponsored events and even flew privately for one of Dubai’s sheikhs for a couple of years, but I constantly had my fingers in the fashion pie, stylist assisting here, personal shopping there, even creating my own designs on the odd occasion.

When did you first launch your very own Kat Lebrasse platform for Fashion, Lifestyle and Travel?

I launched Lebrasse.com in 2013. I literally woke in the middle of the night as if startled and thought to myself, “I’m going to start a blog!”. The funny thing was, I hadn’t the faintest idea how to create, maintain or market a blog. So I spent a lot of time watching YouTube clips, researching and trying different page formats until I figured it all out, of course with the help of close friends who were much more tech-savvy than me.

What do you like most about your job and what you do? Are there any parts that you don’t like?

I love that I essentially work for myself and can more or less do things on my own time. Having said that, there are definitely deadlines and targets set by clients when I am working on projects that I also can always choose whether to do or pass on. That’s the business side of it. The fun side is quite literally doing what I love and it being my job. Keeping up with the latest trends, shopping online to discover new emerging designers, brands or retailers, hitting the newest hot spot on the scene and visiting stunning destinations around the world are all part of my job. What’s not to love?

If you were a piece of jewelry what you would you be, and why?

I would probably be a white gold ring with a 6 carat emerald stone and tiny little diamonds in the band! I adore emeralds, especially the depth of their color. Emeralds also have strong symbolism, are known as the stone of truth, are connected to resilience and attract love, harmony and abundance.

They say ‘Diamonds are a girl’s best friend’. Do you agree?

I do love diamonds but I don’t agree with the saying. I’m far too sentimental. Possessions can’t be your best friend, but they can certainly help keep husbands out of trouble!

What letters did you choose for your HJ intertwined ring duo, & what do they mean to you?

I chose K in Arabic & P in English. K is my initial, and P is both my husband’s and daughter’s initial - Paul and Poppy. They are infallibly the two most precious and important people in my life and I wanted to have something of them with me on the ring.

What are your favourite hangout spots in Dubai, and what is a typical weekend like for you?

Having a young daughter means my hangout spots are quite different from what they used to be! These days my weekends are all about spending as much time as possible with my family. We head to the beach and/or pool most weekends. Riva Beach Club is our local. If we’re feeling like getting out and about a little more, we love to go to Ripe Market. On the odd occasion that my husband and I decide to have some adult time, our latest favorite spots are The Maine Oyster Bar & Grill and Cocktail Kitchen.

What is your next destination trip and what jewelry items do you always pack with you wherever you go?

There are a few upcoming trips that are still to be confirmed, but I am definitely planning to go to Sweden. One of my closest friends is from there, and I cannot wait to experience her home with her. I always pack my wedding and engagement ring when I travel of course, and I like to have options, so I normally throw in a few pairs of statement earrings and bracelets for every occasion.
